Monsters and the ‘Energy Stones’
The Monsters in the game are hyperreal illusions created by energy and magic. The illusive monsters are tangible because of the magic power given to it, which makes them seem real.
The monster illusions are created by ‘Energy Stones’, a gem empowered by magic which is able to absorb energy from the surroundings. When the energy absorbed in Energy Stones reach the limit, huge amount of energy is then released, damaging the surroundings and creating a monster illusion.
The appearance of the monster depends on the surroundings. When the Energy Stones absorb energy from the environment, the magical power it possess stores information of the surroundings, and the image, sound, touch or other types of information will be sent out together with the release of energy, thus creating a monster-like illusion.
As the surroundings change over time and across different places, and that the Energy Stones may absorb energy from different objects in the surrounding each time, the appearance of monster illusions becomes completely random. This is why every witness of the ‘monsters’ describe what they see differently.
The Energy Stones reach their limit every 6 months approximately. Disturbance or unusual phenomena may occur as energy accumulates in the stone.
The players may acquire the Energy Stone after defeating each Boss Monster. They will break the stone and acquire the energy and power to level up, learn new skills and travel to their next destination.
Note:
The concept of ‘Energy Stones’ is the core theory of the story. GM should build their stories surrounding this concept.
As the monsters are changing illusions, GM may describe the appearance and skills of the monsters according to their preferences.
